I went to a Park Avenue dinner party at the home of art patrons Nat and Vivian Serota to toast Robert Wagner's new book, Pieces of My Heart. The theme was Dinner and Diamonds. A Marilyn Monroe impersonator sang "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to Robert, which was too funny, and the gift for the guests was a tray of faux-diamond rings. Every body was fighting over these big huge rocks; some girls were grabbing four rings at once. But everyone there was very well off. I couldn't believe it. I sell these kinds of things on the Home Shopping Network. I'm thinking, "Come on, the last thing you need is a faux-diamond ring."
